How Often Should You Detail Your Car in Florida?

Detailing advice written for a garage-kept car in a mild climate does not apply here. In Tampa Bay your car is dealing with year-round UV, humidity, afternoon storms, pollen and, twice a year, lovebugs. Here is a schedule that actually fits Florida.

A simple rule of thumb

• Wash every 2 weeks. Sooner after lovebug season, a heavy pollen week, or a parking spot under trees or birds.
• Full detail every 3 to 4 months. Interior and exterior, so contaminants never get a chance to bond to paint or work into upholstery.
• Paint sealant or wax every 3 to 6 months. This is the layer that takes the beating from the sun so your clear coat does not have to. If you would rather protect once and maintain less often, ask about a ceramic coating.
• Interior protectant at each detail. Dashboards and door panels see the most UV through the glass.

UV and heat

The sun fades paint, dries out rubber and plastic trim, and cooks dashboards. A protected surface holds up far longer than a bare one.

Humidity
